The original prototype Trojan, hand built by Lesley Hounsfield, is pictured above; it is now owned by the Trojan Museum Trust. In Trojan tried to move upmarket with the Mastra Limousine above ; it was not a success, and their car production finished in They continued their commercial vehicle range: The improvement for was a decompressor added to the cylinder head to aid both starting and stopping. The engine sat above the bicycle rear wheel, which it drove with a friction-roller on the left-hand end of the crankshaft. On the right, there was a Wipac flywheel magneto, and between this and the roller, a crankcase with bobweight flywheel and a horizontal iron barrel. An alloy head closed this, and the capacity was The petrol tank went over the engine with the number plate fitted behind it. A means of lifting the roller clear of the tyre was provided.

The frame was free of rust, and in unusually nice condition for its age. I kept as much as I could of the original Dura Ace components, but I knew that I would replace the wheelset, not wanting to ride on 27 inch 20mm tubulars through downtown Portland. At first, I considered a b conversion as the best option for adapting this bike to my riding style. While possible, this amount of reach is not ideal.
There are brake calipers which have enough reach to accomplish the conversion, but they are not in my constellation of desirable components.

Contact The History of the Folding Bike There have been many who have laid claim to the invention of the folding bike. Humorously, a bike manufacturer who shall remain nameless so as to not unduly embarrass them audaciously claims on their website to have produced the world’s first folding bike in Wishful thinking by their marketing department I suppose. The truth is that the folding bike has been around for considerably longer than one might imagine and most claims of being the first are erroneous.
First things first though, you can’t have a folding bike without the invention of the bicycle itself. So a very short history lesson on the bicycle is in order. Here again we have some disputed claims of invention and historians will probably never be able to identify the exact moment of invention. For a while some had claimed that Leonardo Da Vinci invented the bicycle based on a sketch found in his Codex Atlanticus.
However, this sketch was later determined to be a forgery, though many historical accounts written before this forgery was discovered still credit Da Vinci as the inventor of the bicycle. There were a few “pre-bicycles” invented before the appearance of what one would recognize as a bicycle. The first of these was probably the “Celerifere” developed by a French count named Mede de Sivrac in It consisted of two wheels connected by a beam and was decorated to look like a horse or a lion.
There was no steering mechanism or pedals and it was basically a whimsical novelty meant to entertain the idle rich. The Draisienne below had steering but still no pedals.

When a modern company sets out to build a bicycle, what they really build is the frame (if that.) They buy sets of tubing from a tubing company, cut and weld them together into a frame, paint it and install parts which they buy different specialized parts companies.
None The Raleigh was my first decent quality multi-speed bike. Although I rode it around my subdivision sometimes, most of my riding was on the local bike trails: I also rode it a few times after moving to Chicago in My future wife and I rode together once at Busse Woods when we were dating. When we bought our house in , I didn’t ride it at all. It just sat in the garage. Then in , on the day we came back from our honeymoon, my Raleigh and my wife’s bike were stolen from our garage.
The electric door opener had malfunctioned, leaving the door open. The thief had ditched a junk bike and stolen ours. A police officer came and wrote a report.

Neil McGowran 41 Comments Frame details…, it is all about those little frame details… Frame details are hard to change. Paint and decals are not the same, they can change over time, fooling you and misleading you with a different story… the frame detail should always tell the real story. The amount of different details they used means that this post may turn into an epic. I did consider splitting it into 2 smaller posts, pre and post , but as this is ultimately a timeline post, I wanted it to be unbroken, and to start and complete in one go.
Hopefully, it will be helpful for anyone doing research into their own SBDU frame. If you are a fan of the SBDU or simply need to know these details, then please stick with me. I learnt so much while researching and writing this post, hopefully I can pass this information on to whoever wants to read further! A little while ago, a member of the TI-Raleigh Yahoo group, Hilary Stone, made the first timeline that listed details by noting what he had observed over a number of years about the SBDU frames he had seen.
The key features of identification of any SBDU frame are the blade and stay ends, seat stay caps, rear dropouts, bottom bracket shells, fork crowns, head lugs and decals. When frame decals are seen on an original frame they can help to date a frame in the same way as frame details — if you are considering a renovation, then getting not only the correct SBDU decals but also the correct Reynolds decals in the correct position and corresponding to the correct year s is something you should know.
Renovations are not all about period correct date coded components. However, I have tried to tally these features to an approximate year where I can. Every detail listed is as per SBDU usage and may have differed when used with other builders Some lug designs look very similar, even more so in images.

Locating the Serial Number – Chicago built Schwinn serial numbers are found on the left rear axle-hanger or fork-end on the frame. If letters were used for date codes, they skipped the letters “I” and “O” as they looked too much like numbers. This scheme is for all Chicago built non-Paramount models excluding Superiors and Super Sports whose serial numbers are located on the left rear axle hanger and consist of a single letter code for the month [again, skip"I” and"O”], the last digit of the year and a 3-digit sequential build number — e.

The general consensus of even the most doubting researchers is to accept a ” ” date as the beginning of the “undisputed” or documented history of the Shroud of Turin. This also happens to coincide with the approximate date determined by the carbon dating of the cloth. Although there is a significant amount of evidence supporting the Shroud’s existence prior to the mid ‘s, much of it is, in fact, “circumstantial” and remains mostly unproven. In an effort to bring factual information to the viewers of this website, I am including here only the undisputed history as accepted by most scholars.
I am also limiting the scope of this history to only the more significant events.

The restoration was delayed, oddly enough by another Raleigh restoration. Now that it is “out of the way” lets see where we left off. The front hub and wheel cleaned-up. The wheel required very little truing, I might have turned adjusted 4 or five spokes. None more than a degree turn “tightened or loosened”. The spokes still look a little dull and will probably get sanded lightly before I am through. The flanges required a little brushing with a brass detail brush.
The axle bearings and cones were an easy re-grease. The grease wiped off easily, which is usually not the case. I replaced the inner-tubes with new ones with Presta valves.

Some of the mid ‘s straight gauge frames had serial numbers starting with a single letter which was towards the end of the alphabet. This new system applied to the high-end i. Reynolds frames, and involved the placing of a character at the beginning of the serial number. The character began at the start of the alphabet, and indicated year of manufacture. Detail about the numerals that follow the alphabet are sketchy, and are presumably sequential serial numbers of some kind.

Raleigh is probably the most famous of all UK bike manufacturers, with an illustrious history dating back to Their range over the years has encompassed all types of bike, from the iconic Chopper to a Tour de France-winning road bike for Joop Zoetemelk in sees them reinventing their.
As we swapped stories, too often this was a conclusion we came down to. A guy called a girl fat. Another said he was too good for the girl he was dating. All obvious red flags, and all of them ignored. Women wishing it was a small drawback and not an indication of something bigger. No, not the guy who said all of these offensive things or treated a woman disrespectfully.
They blamed themselves—for choosing him, not ending it sooner, for texting him back when they should have remained silent, the list goes on. Wanting to find a life partner, spouse, or someone whose shoulder to lean your head upon are a nearly universal desire. Yet this desire can cloud our judgment and lead to poor choices.
It can even feel like too much work starting over with someone new. Below is a list of commonly encountered red flags that might want to make women think twice before pursuing or continuing such a romantic relationship. While this article is written within a heterosexist frame, many of these same concerns can apply to same sex relationships as well.

Formation[ ed[ edit ] source of the Siberian Traps basaltic rock has been attributed to a mantle plume , which rose until it impacted against the bottom of the Earth’s crust , producing volcanic eruptions through the Siberian Craton. The inclusion of mafic and felsic rock indicates multiple other eruptions that occurred and coincided with the one-million-year-long eruption that created the majority of the basaltic layers. The traps are divided into sections based on their chemical, stratigraphical, and petrographical composition.
Impact on prehistoric life[ ed[ edit ] of the major questions is whether the Siberian Traps were directly responsible for the Permian—Triassic mass extinction event that occurred million years ago, if they were themselves caused by some other, larger event, such as an asteroid impact. A recent hypothesis put forward is that the volcanism triggered the growth of Methanosarcina , a microbe that then spewed enormous amounts of methane into Earth’s atmosphere, imately altering the Earth’s carbon cycle based on observations such as a significant increase of inorganic carbon reservoirs in marine environments.

Smallish and plain of ornament it seemed downright unremarkable next to its freakishly collectable turn of the 20th century neighbours. But as I made my way past it, from the corner of my eye I glimpsed a little something that made me examine it closer – ultimately dragging it out into daylight. And there, by the creaking garden gate and under threat of rain, I stood and marveled at that deliciously bizarre feature that distinguished Humber bicycles from other English 3-speeds of its era.
In leu of standard fork blades, Humber devised a fork with skinny twin blades on each side. Okay, so maybe I need to get out more …but still! I mean come on, they are twin fork blades! Founded in in Beeston, England, Humber Cycles were a brand that has always struck me as largely fictional. By the s – when they began manufacturing bicycles as we know them today – original owner Thomas Humber had already sold the company and it was headed, as far as I can tell, by a marketing entity.
